The Cast of Alvin and the Chipmunks

Alvin and the Chipmunks is a musical comedy franchise created by Ross Bagdasarian, Sr., starting in 1958 with the novelty song “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)”. The franchise had its main run with The Alvin Show series, produced by Walter Lantz Productions and Bagdasarian Productions from 1961 to 1962, followed by the direct-to-video releases of The Chipmunks in 1983 and 1984, a live-action/animated film in 2007, and two CGI/live-action films in 2015 and 2018. In total, there have been 11 Alvin and the Chipmunks movies .

The original franchise centered around the adventures of three anthropomorphic chipmunks: Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. The trio are known for getting into mischief and being a general nuisance to their human guardian, David (David Seville). They would often sing as well, usually accompanied by Alvin playing his trademark harmonica. In addition to disturbances caused by their freewheeling antics and general mischievousness, their when singing would unintentionally generate high levels of static electricity; this generally occurred when they rubbed their fur together or brushed it the wrong way. This would often lead to disastrous results such as inadvertent fires or even shutting down power grids. More often than not however, their shenanigans would land them into various predicaments from which they were eventually rescued by David.

While David is generally presented as being kindhearted towards the chipmunks and tolerant of their antics (up to a point), there are instances where he does lose his temper with them; especially Alvin. This usually happens when Alvin’s actions go too far or cause more damage than intended. In spite of this however, David does care deeply for the chipmunks and would go to great lengths to ensure their safety; even if it means putting himself in harm’s way.

The chipmunks must put aside their differences to save their friend and mentor.

The sequel, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, picks up with the trio dealing with their newfound stardom.
