There are currently two Dune movies in development. One is being made by Legendary Pictures, and the other by Denis Villeneuve.

It has been nearly four decades since the release of the first Dune movie in 1984. The film, directed by David Lynch, was a commercial and critical failure. However, its box office failure did not stop it from gaining a cult following in the years since its release. In 2000, Lynch released an extended version of the film, which was better received by audiences and critics alike.

In recent years, there has been renewed interest in adapting Dune for the big screen. In 2007, Paramount Pictures optioned the rights to produce a new film adaptation of Dune. However, this project stalled and was ultimately cancelled. In November 2016, it was announced that Legendary Pictures had acquired the rights to produce a new Dune movie. This project is currently in development, with Denis Villeneuve tapped to direct.

In addition to the new movie adaptation, there is also a television series in development at Legendary Television. The series will be executive produced by Villeneuve, who may also direct some episodes. It is unclear if this series will be a prequel or sequel to the upcoming movie adaptation or if it will be based on any of the other books in Frank Herbert’s Dune universe.

The Cast

It’s no secret that the Dune franchise has been having a bit of a resurgence lately. After the disappointing 1984 film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s beloved 1965 novel, there was an attempt to make a TV series in 2000 that never got past the pilot stage. But now, with a new series on the way from director Denis Villeneuve, and a film adaptation of the prequel novel Dune: The Butlerian Jihad in development, it seems like the world of Dune is finally getting the big-budget treatment it deserves.

But just how many Dune movies are actually in development? It turns out, quite a few. Here’s a breakdown of all the Dune movies that are currently in various stages of development.

Dune (1984)
The first attempt to adapt Dune for the big screen was this 1984 film directed by David Lynch and starring Kyle MacLachlan as Paul Atreides. The film was not well received by either fans or critics, and is widely considered one of Lynch’s worst films. However, it has since become something of a cult classic, and is worth checking out for fans of either Lynch or Herbert’s novel.

Dune (2000)
This unaired TV pilot was directed byJohn Harrison and starred William Hurt as Duke Leto Atreides. The project was ultimately scrapped, but Harrison released it online in 2008 for fans to check out. It’s an interesting curiosity, but is generally considered to be inferior to Lynch’s film.

Dune: The Butlerian Jihad (in development)
This adaptation of Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s 2002 prequel novel is currently being developed by Legendary Entertainment. French director Pierre Morel is attached to direct, withAnderson and Herbert serving as executive producers. No cast has been announced yet, but filming is expected to begin sometime in 2020.

Dune (in development)
The most high-profile Dune adaptation currently in development is Denis Villeneuve’s film version of Herbert’s original novel. Villeneuve directed Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival, and is a major talent in Hollywood right now. The cast so far includes Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica Atreides, Zendaya as Chani Kynes, Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Harkonnen, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban Harkonnen, Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam, and Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides. The film is set to be released on November 20th, 2020.

The Crew

It’s been a busy few years for the Dune franchise. A new movie adaptation is currently in development, with a proposed release date of 2020. In addition to this, there have been a number of other Dune-related projects in the works. Here’s a rundown of everything that’s currently in the works:

-A new movie adaptation, directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Rebecca Ferguson. This project is currently in development, with a proposed release date of 2020.
-A television series adaptation, produced by Legendary Television. This project is currently in development, with no proposed release date as of yet.
-A video game adaptation, being developed by video game company Funcom. This project is currently in development, with no proposed release date as of yet.
-A board game adaptation, being developed by board game company Gale Force Nine. This project is currently in development, with no proposed release date as of yet.

The Locations

It’s no secret that Hollywood loves to make movies in exotic locations. And there’s no place more exotic than the deserts of North Africa. That’s why it comes as no surprise that several movies have been made in the deserts of Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco.

The most famous desert movie location is probably the Sahara Desert in Tunisia. The Sahara has been used as a location for many famous movies, including The English Patient, Lawrence of Arabia, and Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.

Another popular desert movie location is the Erg Chebbi desert in Morocco. This desert has been used as a filming location for movies like The Mummy, Gladiator, and Kingdom of Heaven.

Finally, the Algerian desert has also been used as a movie set for films like The Lost City of Z and Kundun.

The Costumes

While it is not yet known how many Dune movies are being made, the costumes are one of the most expensive parts of the production. It is estimated that each costume costs about $1 million.

The Props

Originally, there were supposed to be three movies, each based on one book in Frank Herbert’s Dune series. However, after the first movie was made, it became clear that trying to cram everything from the first book into one movie would not work. So instead, they decided to focus on the mainplot of the first book and make that into two movies. The third movie would then be based on the second book.

Unfortunately, even with this change in plan, the production of the second movie ran into so many problems that it ended up being Cancelled. As a result, there is only one Dune movie.

The Sets

There Are Two Separate Projects In The Works
As of right now, there are two separate Dune movies in development. One is being worked on by Legendary Pictures, and the other by Denis Villeneuve.

The first project was first announced in 2016, with Legendary securing the rights to make films based on both Dune and its sequel novel, Dune Messiah. Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, and Cale Boyter were attached to produce, with Villeneuve in talks to direct.

In February 2017, it was reported that Legendary had put their Dune project on hold indefinitely, due to creative differences between the studio and Villeneuve. However, in April 2018, it was revealed that Villeneuve had decided to move forward with the project without Legendary. He will now be working with Dan monitoring his script, should the project get greenlit by a studio.

The Vehicles

The Dune franchise is one of the most popular and beloved in all of science fiction. With its unique blend of action, adventure, and philosophy, the property has captivated audiences for decades. And now, with a new movie on the way, fans are wondering how many Dune movies are being made.

The answer, unfortunately, is a bit unclear. There are currently two Dune movies in development: one by Legendary Pictures and one by Denis Villeneuve. Legendary’s movie is based on the first book in the series, while Villeneuve’s film will adapt the second book.

It’s possible that both movies will be released, but it’s also possible that only one will be made. It’s impossible to say for sure at this point. What we do know is that there are two Dune movies in development, and we’ll have to wait and see which one (if either) ends up getting made.

The Weapons

The Dune movies are based on the 1965 science fiction novel by Frank Herbert. The first movie was released in 1984 and was directed by David Lynch. The movie was not well received by fans of the book and was a commercial failure. In 2000, a three-part miniseries was released which was better received.

In December 2016, it was announced that a new Dune movie would be made and would be released in 2018. However, in February 2017, it was announced that the release date had been pushed back to 2019. In November 2017, it was announced that the movie would be split into two parts, with the first part being released in 2020 and the second part being released in 2021.

It is unknown how many movies are currently being planned.

The Effects

Despite the mixed reviews, the first Dune movie was a box office success, grossing over $30 million dollars. This allowed the producers to move ahead with plans for a sequel. However, these plans were ultimately scrapped due to the poor performance of the second movie.
