Introduction
Dusk till Dawn is a film franchise centered around the fictional character of Richard Gecko, played by George Clooney in the first movie. The movies follow Gecko and his trials and tribulations as he tries to survive in a world full of vampires. The franchise includes three movies: From Dusk Till Dawn, Texas Blood Money, and The Hangman’s Daughter.
The first movie
The first movie, titled From Dusk Till Dawn, was released in theaters in 1996. It was written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by Robert Rodriguez. The movie follows a pair of criminal brothers (played by George Clooney and Tarantino) who take a family hostage in order to escape across the border into Mexico. They end up at a vampire-infested strip club, where they must fight for their lives against the bloodthirsty creatures.
The film was a moderate box office success, grossing $25 million on a $6 million budget. However, it received mixed reviews from critics. Many felt that the last third of the movie devolved into an incomprehensible gorefest, while others praised the film’s blend of genres.
The movie spawned two sequels: From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (1999) and From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter (2000). Both were direct-to-video releases and were met with mostly negative reviews.
